I got up to the smell of coffee (I had got it ready and turned the timer on last night, not a usual weekday occurrence) and a house guest. We took turns taking showers, etc. and tried to stay out of each other's way. Once dressed, it was still early, so B___ treated me to breakfast at the Coney Island just down Plymouth Road (its so close we could have just walked if everything wasn't covered with ice and snow).
Finally, I got to work and, well, got to work! Once I was back home and the cat's got their treats, I changed clothes. I must say, the cats are getting pretty damn insistent about treats these days. At first it was just Caley and Scruffy didn't seem to care one way or the other. But even he meows about them, now!
I watched the news on TV, then switched to Family Guy (which was about prostrate exams, a subject I am very familiar with and found hilarious!)
Then it was time to eat. Jake had mentioned a few days ago they had made pan-fried hamburgers and he was impressed with the crust you got with that method. So, that got me thinking and I couldn't remember the last time I didn't "grill" burgers. I just had to try it!
Just used plain hamburger and my house seasoning. Made four patties out of the pound of meat and fried them in the biggest pan I had (to try and cut down on grease splatter). That, BTW, did not work, lol! I got grease everywhere, but also got four juicy burgers with a nice crust on them.
I think it took longer to clean up the stove and surrounding area than it did to eat two of them! But, they were great and worth the effort.
I went back to reading (nothing new on TV) but gave it up just after 9:00 PM. Wednesday night's late night bullsh*t session with my buddy left me a little tired, today. So, I went to sleep.
I think your fish from the night before would be better for you than last night's burgers!
ReplyDeleteJust a suggestion.
Dad,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have started watching Family Guy. That show is just about awesome...the prostate episode is funny as hell! You should buy all the episodes like Jake and I...hours of fun.
@ Anon: If you've read this blog for a week or more, you should know that making food that looks and tastes good is very, very important to me. Food that's good for me? er, not so much...
ReplyDelete@ Carla: I think it's easier for me just to turn it on each night. I'm still trying to get enough time to watch those America's Test Kitchen DVDs you guys gave me!
A year or two back, we were in Toronto looking to watch some television. I remembered Jake and Carla talking about this family show. So we switched to the program. It ended up being some cartoon about an overweight family.
ReplyDeleteThat's not what you fellows are talking about, is it?
Only the father and son are overweight. The daughter, while not skinny, is not what I would call overweight. The mother, baby and dog are all well within acceptable weight ranges.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I misspoke or you misunderstood. It may be a show about a family but I wouldn't call it a family show.
Um, is this a cartoon, then?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a cartoon, but with very adult topics, situations and dialog.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Brian, the dog, walks upright and can talk, if that helps.
