Simple Sunday, Stuck Inside

I woke up very early on Sunday (4:45 AM) and couldn't fall back asleep. I drank some coffee and waited for the sunrise. Well, no sun to speak of, but when it got lighter outside, I went out and used the linseed oil on the wheel barrow handles. Since I had it out anyway, I went ahead and oiled all the wood handles on my garden tools. I used to do this religiously every fall back on the farm, but I guess I've grown lazy in my old age.

I took a picture of the old sandbox, now a raised bed garden. I finished filling it with compost last night. It's supposed to rain hard today, so afterwards I should be able to see any low spots and adjust accordingly.

I made two fried egg sandwiches for breakfast and refilled my pill box. Now its time for my shower and then housecleaning.

Fast-forward! It's now almost noon and the house is cleaned, floors mopped, etc., etc., etc. Last load of clothes is in the dryer and all I have left is to clean the sinks and toilets in both bathrooms. But, first I am taking a break! Oh, it's raining, BTW. So, I grab my book and head for the couch. Later, I went back and folded the last load of clothes and then moved into the bedroom to try and take a nap.

I did doze a bit, but not the real nap I was looking for. I got up in disgust at 3:00 PM and started prepping dinner. I tried to check the rain gauge with my binoculars and its looks like I have over 1/2 inch of rain so far.

So, I sliced up three small yellow onions and sauted them in olive oil and butter. Then I added a tray of crimini mushrooms that I sliced thick. Next I added a cup of celery and the left-over browned ground beef from the fridge.

I added a cup of homemade beef broth (all I had left) and a cup of water and then two cups of brown rice. When that came to a boil, I covered it and turned the burner to simmer. When the timer went off for the rice, I opened it up and fluffed it up and dinner was ready!

I ate dinner watching TV, waiting for my Sunday night shows. Once they were finished, so was I, so I turned off the light at 10:30 PM and went to sleep.
