Thursday, taking shortcuts

So, it's Thursday and I'm headed home to cut the grass. I like to cut it on Thursday so I don't have to do it on the weekend and it looks nice. But, it's supposed to rain Friday and into Saturday, so this time the pressure is on.

I perform my usual homecoming rituals and change into shorts and a t-shirt. By 6:00 PM, I'm checking the oil and go to refill it with gas. Damn! Gas can's empty! Getting to the gas station is easy: turn right on the Plymouth Road and turn right again into gas station. But, at this time of the night, traffic's terrible and getting home will be a major pain!

When I first moved here, there was an alley that ran from San Jose behind the stores and the Coney Island into the car wash lot, then into the Farmer Jack/CVS/gas station lot. Handy shortcut! But (so the story goes) 3 or 4 years ago, somebody drove through it and almost hit the guy who owns the car wash. So, he put big concrete parking bumpers in, blocking it off.

However, the enterprising lads on San Jose who have 4-wheel drive pickups started making their own shortcut from the alley through the vacant lot next door to me to the car wash parking lot. So, after I got the gas, I drove back to the car wash and took the shortcut. I took photos so you can see what I mean. Looks worse than it is, but I wouldn't advise trying it after its rained.

I got the grass cut and was back in the house by 8:30 PM. I warmed up some leftovers and wandered in to watch the taped Top Chef show. I turned the TV off when it was done and went to bed.
