Get out the Vote!

As I was taking out the garbage at 6:45 AM on Tuesday, I noticed it did sprinkle overnight. It was just enough to wet the concrete apron, but not enough to even make a puddle.

I had to hurry, because today is a primary election in Wayne County. So, I swung by the polls just after 7:00 AM. I was the second voter, BTW. A funny thing happened at the polls. I made my choices, voting for everything by selecting mostly Republicans. However, in the Redford Township offices, there were NO Republicans on the ticket. So, I voted for the Democratic folks I knew, believing they had done a good job so far.

I took my ballot to the man and he tore off the top, then instructed me to enter it into the machine. Which, I did and it promptly said, the majority of my ballot was unacceptable and asked me to accept the non-partisan votes or deny them. I am already late for work, so I chose "Accept." The elderly ladies, who were running the polling station apologized, explaining that they should have told me I had to either vote straight Republican or Democrat. So, my only vote that counted was the saving of the Detroit Zoo. Granted I haven't personally been there in say, 20 years (the last time was with Lu and her Mom and I have pictures), but I do think we need a zoo!

So, onto work. After a long day, I headed home, having to run an errand first and get some gasoline. I didn't reach home until just before 6:00 PM.

I did a little of this and that and by the time 7:30 PM had come, I was hungry. So, I warmed up the Pasta alla Carbonara and ate a bowlful, topped with grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, and a little salt.

BTW, while I am thinking about it, I would like to add, that, while I did, in fact, use about 1/2 a pound of bacon in this dish (instead of the more traditional pancetta), it is meant to serve 6-8 people. So, since I am eating it in portions, and a half-pound of bacon is maybe eight strips, I am actually ingesting less bacon in each serving than if I had gone to a restaurant and ordered a breakfast of bacon and eggs (usually four strips of bacon).

I posted a poem I wrote, called Passing Through, using a line a friend of mine gave me. Then, I watched a little TV and then went to bed at 10:00 PM.

Aw, you're taking all the fun out of it. Ok, ok, I'll stop teasing. I promise. I really do wish you well on your weight loss plan.

Change of topic, we are coming to the cottage on Sunday. Rumor has it that Hannah and Kal are also coming. Riese hopes so, as she is dying to play with cousins. If you are available, I hope to see you.

    Cheers,

(PS: Not to be absolutist or mention messy facts, but don't confuse Epictetus with Epicurus. Epictetus was a slave and practiced a form of stoicism. The quote you posted yesterday might mean something a little different than you think. See Epictetus’s Discourses.)

  4. Thank you, Also! And, add in the fact that it was 7:00 AM, I was late for work, and in a hurry, and yes, I admit it, I just plain missed that!

  5. You're welcome.

@ Anon - You have to remember that he has a very poor diet and doesn't take care of himself near as well as he should. According to WebMD diabetes can severely affect eyesight... if I get some time I'll Google around and post a bunch of links to the things I find.
