  3. Well, when we first moved in, there was a wooden box nailed to the tree out front, filled with dirt. So, I planted a spike and two ornamental sweet potato vines in it. It was old when we got here and only lasted a couple of years.

When it fell apart, I replaced it with one I made from plywood and painted brown. That one also got spikes and, depending on my mood, either the sweet potato vines, bleeding hearts or wave petunias.

The new one is made from rough-sawn cedar and should weather to a nice silver-gray color.

So, I guess the answer to your question is a "tree box" is my dumb name for a planter attached to a tree.
