Slightly Warmer Wednesday

It was a little warmer on Wednesday, so I hosed all the crap off the car at lunch at the quarter car wash (BTW, does anybody know when the "quarter" car wash went from five quarters to six quarters?) I also went to the library and got that book, "the Elements of Taste" and the one my Mom had recommended, "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. BTW, the three books I returned were each one day late (who knew?), so I had to pay a 60 cent fine.

Oh, and the little wireless caf off of the entryway of the library that I have long coveted? Explanation: They had like five or six tables, a display counter with brownies, cookies and muffins and advertised various soups and chili. They had like two employees and an amazing turnover. But, it was emptied now, except for a painter and a sign saying the new Mrs. Cookie's would soon be opening. Dammit! Seriously, if I had known it was for sale, I would have put an offer on it. Now, unless the new folks fail, it's too late... Of course, it is only my ego when it comes to soup that makes me think I would have succeeded...

When I got home at 5:10 PM, it was still sunny out, so I slipped off my shoes, put on my boots and spent some time picking up branches in the front yard (including the one that knocked the old phone line down). But, while sunny and above freezing, it really was still quite cold and windy (high of just 37 degrees F. today). So, I didn't even think about doing the back yard, yet. I'll save that for this weekend.

Inside, I treated the now long-suffering cats, changed clothes and started the Wednesday night laundry. I tried calling Lu to wish her a "Happy Birthday" today, on her real birthday, but just got the recording.

Now, the plan this afternoon was to finally clean the main bath (I have been putting this off since the past weekend). But, my daughter Melissa called and we talked a long, long time, again. After we hung up, I decided it was much more important to eat some dinner (the last of the fried rice) and then sit on the couch, reading my new book until it was time to go to bed. So, I did.

  1. P.J., I remember you mentioning that "The Elements of Taste" is not a recipe book. Still, I am curious to know if that book contains suggestions on how to ramp-up the flavor in low-sodium diets. If so, I will need to check a copy out from my local library.

  2. Well, I am about a third of the way through it and it hasn't mentioned anything about low-sodium food yet, so I kinda doubt it. But, if it does, I will let you know!

  3. Thank you. :)

Oh, and I already know you love salt and good texture when it comes to your foods. I am in the process of figuring out how to ferment a low-sodium version of sauerkraut as well as make low-sodium kielbasa. I figure if I can get someone like you to, bare minimum, like what I come up with, then it should be a cinch to get my intended recipient to enjoy it. Would you like to critique my results?
