Wednesday morning was cloudy, with a 30% chance of occasional rain predicted. However, when I went home for lunch, it still had not rained and so I grew hopeful it would not before I had the chance to cut the front lawn.
And, for a change, I got lucky! When I went home at 5:00 PM, it was still sunny outside. So, I treated the cats, checked my email and voicemail, changed clothes and headed out to the garage.
I unwound the 100-foot extension cord and plugged in the line trimmer. I trimmed everything in the front yard (around trees, the gardens, the driveway, etc.) and then coiled the cord back up and put that all away.
I went out back and hooked up my new square pattern sprinkler. My old one died, so I had to throw it away. This time I bought a simpler one (by Vigoro, called Dad's Reliable) with no moving parts. I put that in the middle of the raised bed garden and turned the water on.
Then I gassed up the push mower, checked the oil and fired it up. I cut all of the front lawn and then went and got my camera. I took several pictures of the front garden for you, plus another of the Clematis (which, as I said before, has an amazing number of blossoms and buds this year). I went out back and turned the water off.
I washed up and started my supper. I put 1/2 pound of bacon on a rack, overlapped slightly (it keeps it from becoming too crisp) and covered it with fresh ground black pepper. I put the rack inside a foil-lined cookie sheet and put that in a preheated 400 degrees F. oven for 8-10 minutes.
Meanwhile I toasted some of that Oatnut bread and sliced up two vine-grown tomatoes. I also ripped up some lettuce. When everything was ready, I added some mayonnaise and made a great Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato (BLT) sandwich. I ate that watching TV and then went to bed early.
