Wet Wednesday (I've used this too much)

Well, then it should stop raining on Wednesdays!

Anyway, it rained overnight here, but I caught a break, It was cloudy and overcast when I left for work, but NOT raining. Before leaving, I realized how hungry I was. Since I am just now out of my Irish porridge, I soft-boiled three eggs and ate them with torn-up bread, butter, salt and pepper. Delicious and soul-satisfying!

It apparently rained again between then and lunch (how would I know, being in a windowless office suite? By the puddles and my windshield.)

When I went home after work, it was not raining, just windy and overcast. But, it's too wet outside to cut grass, move mulch (you think it's a pain in the butt to move dry, try doing it when it's wet) or clean out the other two gutters (in the front, anyway, the ladder sinks into the wet garden soil).

So, instead I watered the container gardens and urn in front (which are all under the eaves and do not benefit from normal rainfall). While I was filling up my watering can, I looked out back and saw the bird feeder and suet cage were both empty. So, having nothing better to do while it was filling, I made up the following song:

"Bird seed and suet,
I must soon get to it...
The birds are depending
on my happy ending..."

Okay, it was lame, but fun to sing while I watered everything. I like to attribute these sorts of moments to the cleverness of my mind, but it could also be the toll that the 1960's and 70's took on my brain...

I dunno...

Once I had the watering done, I went out back and refilled the bird feeder and suet cage. Then I watered the Topsy-turvy tomato plant (also hanging under the eaves). Next I went out to the raised bed garden and thinned out the radish and leaf lettuce seedling to about a space of two inches, per plant. I didn't see any further damage caused by the (squirrels? Rabbits? Ground hogs? I dunno). My only prayer to the garden gods is that they bite into a Habanera pepper! That'll learn 'em!

Back inside it was already after 7:00 PM when I changed clothes. I started the Wednesday night wash and began thinking of dinner. I was going to make tuna and peas over egg noodles, but found to my dismay I didn't have any cans of mushroom soup. So, I put the egg noodles back and dug out a box of mac & cheese. I fixed that and ate about half of it watching TV. Then I went to bed.
