Saturday

I woke up early on Saturday, but resolved to go back to sleep. For a change, it worked! I woke up for real at 7:00 AM. I wrote the Blog entry and then went out to make a pot of coffee.

I stripped the bed and started the Saturday morning wash.

It was still cold (30 degrees F.) but I saw something I haven't seen in days: the sun!!!

When the coffee was ready, I had a cup while making breakfast: scrambled eggs and oat-nut bread toast. I ate it in the living room on the couch, reveling in the sunshine. After I got the plate, pan and bowl washed up, I went back and lay on the couch for a while. That sun really did feel good to these old bones.

Finally, I kicked it into gear and took my shower. I got dressed, took the first load of laundry out of the dryer, put the second one in and the third (and last) in the washer. Then I started to clean the house.

I deep-cleaned the living room and got all the cat hair off the couch, love seat, drapes, etc. I then vacuumed, swept and dust-mopped the floor with Enddust. The only thing I didn't do was the dusting (not supposed to raise my arm that high).

I started taking stuff out of the main bathroom to wash it when I realized how tired I was. So, with the bedding still in the dryer, I lay down on the naked bed for a quick nap.

I was awakened by Jake and Carla. They were in the neighborhood and stopped by for a visit. We chatted in the kitchen for quite a while and, when they left, I gave them a container of the Cheddar-Horseradish soup and the last container of the Split Pea and Ham soup. They are another of my taste-test groups and (I like this) are brutally honest. So, we'll see...

After they left, I started back on cleaning the bathroom. But, I got a phone call from a friend and we talked a long time. After we talked about the economy, the mounting deficit, and the increase in local crimes (everyday now, on Channel 4 news, they give out new alerts on areas that are experiencing car jackings, violent home invasions, rapes, etc. And, we are no longer talking about Detroit, but Grosse Point, Allen Park, etc. Like my friend B___ said, once you've stolen everything in Detroit, all that's left is to move out into the suburbs. I am thinking about putting a sign in the yard that says "I am under-employed and damn near broke but have a loaded shot gun, so don't mess with me!") we hung up. I was depressed...

I started back to the bathroom when the phone rang again. It was my daughter Melissa. Now, this conversation was not as depressing, but it did last a while (well, actually, quite a while).

When we finally hung up, I realized just how hungry I was (I'd skipped lunch, still feeling full from my late breakfast).

I checked my email and had one from Jake, regarding the Cheddar Cheese and Horseradish soup. He said "Nice! Like a bowl of Schuler's cheese spread." Which made me feel good.

So, before dinner, I got the bedding and made the bed up. Then I warmed up the last of the Bush's Baked Beans and two hot dogs.

I plated that up and went into the bedroom and the TV to finish the day...

Now I did watch a lot of this mornings cooking show (the theme was tailgating) but I also watched my favorite cartoon (or are they now called animated shows?) "Jane and the Dragon." It's on Channel 4 and I just really like it.

When I got tired, I turned the TV off and went to bed.
