A Colossal Screw-Up!

I work up at 6:30 AM on Saturday. I booted the cats off the bed, stripped it and threw the bedding into the washer. Then I posted the Blog entry.

Next, I started cleaning the house. I was very excited, because I was having guests today. I had talked to Carla on Friday night and thought she said they wanted to come over and play some games. We settled on three o'clock. I told her I had prosciutto and a cantaloupe for a main snack.

So, I swept and polished the wood floors, washed the kitchen and bathroom floors, cleaned the toilets, then washed the counters and stove. I cleaned the glass surfaces on the tables and all the mirrors. About noon, I started thinking that my snack wouldn't be enough, so I got a recipe Melissa had sent for a pretzel dip, wrote down the ingredients needed and headed to the nearest market.

Back home, I put one 8-ounce package of cream cheese (you were supposed to get cream cheese with chives, but mine are already up, so I just snipped some), 8-ounces of crumbled blue cheese, 8-ounces of grated sharp cheddar cheese and one cup of heavy whipping cream into the food processor. I blended that all together and put it in the fridge (for at least two hours to get happy).

I also picked up a big bag of those little pretzel sticks and a winter melon (to offer a different taste along with the prosciutto, rather than just the cantaloupe).

Speaking of Melissa, she called, but we hung up just before 3:00 PM. I put the grounds and the water in the coffee pot, in case they wanted some coffee later. Then I went and lighted the candle in the living room and the ones in each bathroom, grabbed my latest magazine, sat on the couch and waited... and waited... and waited...

Then I started to worry. Something bad must have happened as they are never late (if anything they usually show up early). Something so bad they didn't even have time to call!

So, I called their house at 5:00 PM. No answer! Now I knew it! Somebody's in the hospital (Jake, Carla or the dog) or something.

About 6:30 PM, having gotten tired of pacing, I went to check my email (first time since this morning - hey! I been busy!!) and found one from Carla, asking ME what happened? Why didn't I show up AT THEIR HOUSE at 3:00 PM?

I replied and told her about the mix-up but then decided that wasn't enough. So, I called and got Jake on the phone. He didn't sound as ticked at me as I was with myself. I only hope Carla isn't. I know the dog still loves me, though.

I went to each candle and blew it out...

  1. How could you forget Carla?
Shame on you...so, who ate all of the food?

Happy St. Patrick's day to you too!
p.s. have you ever tried the cabbage with bacon?

  2. I didn't forget her, (nobody could forget her!), I thought they were coming here! I ate the cantaloupe yesterday, but I have no idea how long it will take to eat all that pretzel dip.

No, I had already made my corned beef and cabbage when I saw that post. Looks and sounds delicious, though.
