The Secret Garden

My Mother had a garden on the north-side of the breezeway that connected the house to the garage on our old homestead. She always called it her secret garden.

For the life of me, I can't recall what was planted there (for some reason only iris comes to mind) but I loved that place.

  1. Not much else was there as I recall. It was pretty much shaded by the breezeway and those 5 pines. Except around the noon sun.

My fav was out front on 24, the Maples and the Lylac. How much Syrup did you make that one year?

  2. Hmmm... maybe 15 to 20 pints of it. (it takes like 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup).

I remember that! I collected as many whiskey pint bottles as I could from friends and family, sterilized them, put in the syrup and a cork I bought to fit the bottles. Then I heated up some canning wax and dipped the cork end into it. Looked pretty damn cool! I gave away most of it as presents.
