I got up with the alarm on Monday morning and went to work. It was still raining off and on, but I managed to (mostly) slip inside the raindrops. However, the big story was the north wind! I understand from the Weather Channel we are on the northern edges of the storms that caused such great devastation in the southeast US over the weekend (one tornado was like a mile wide and touched down for at least 97 miles!) I forget the death toll, but the pictures were horrible.
But, by the end of the day, it was sunny and 60 degrees F. (still with the strong north wind, though). I noticed the other day I have a couple of dandelions in the front garden, some along the garage garden and a bunch in the very back garden (next to the wall).
And so, after I got home and changed clothes, I grabbed a jacket and the dandelion digger and dispatched the ones in front and on the south side of the garage. Then I went out back and dug up all the ones in the rear garden (I threw them over the wall - hey, I figure that's fair! Your trash blows into my yard, you can take my weeds!) I was feeling good and back inside before 7:00 PM.
Before I went out back, I'd checked my soup cans. I was thinking Campbell's split pea with ham or beans with bacon. Unfortunately, I didn't have either of them left (my pantry's dwindling). So, I grabbed a pound of hamburger (from last fall's cow) and stuck it in some cold water to thaw. I forget the science involved, but cold water is the quickest method to thaw frozen meat.
Back inside, I filled in the Blog entry, checked my two email accounts and then shut the computer down. Then I made a version of the Palms Road poor people food: hamburger and beans. I say a version as I didn't have any plain pork and beans, just Bush's baked beans.
So, I sauted a diced onion, added some garlic and when that was translucent, added the hamburger. When that was browned, I drained the grease and added the 28-ounce can of beans. Now with plain pork and beans, you would also add some ketchup, yellow mustard and molasses. But since it's already kicked up a notch or two, I just put in the Bush's baked beans as is. I let that warm up and then got me a big bowl.
It tasted good and, when the rest cooled off, I put it in the fridge for leftover meals.
I watched two taped movies and so went to bed late.
