The alarm went off and I got up (reluctantly). I got myself shaved, showered and dressed and then headed into work.
Now, the folks between where I come in and where I sit are famous for their treats. Bagels, doughnuts, cake, homemade egg scrapples, and so on. It's not my groups, so I ignore it. But, today, there were just three summer squash lying on the counter. So I stuck my head into Bill M's office and said, "Who brought in raw summer squash as a treat?"
He said it was Laurie R. who apparently had an excess in her garden. So, I went and asked her if anybody wanted them. She said, "No." so I said I'd take them.
I went home at lunchtime, cut them up thin and fried them in butter (another one of my Mom's favorites - mine too!) I ate that for my lunch while watching TV. Yumo!
Back at work, the afternoon dragged on until it was finally five o'clock (you already should know about my theory of the time-space continuum and Mondays and Fridays).
Back at home, I had a voicemail from my cousin Sue (or Karras) who said she'd be here Saturday evening to pick up the canoe. The caveat was that she'd checked out 12-foot rental trailers and thought her 8-foot one wasn't much different. She said she would just put the canoe on at an angle.
Again, I must stress the damn thing is 17-feet long!
So, now I have to clean the house tonight (I was gonna weed) and try to figure out how to get the canoe down without breaking it. Before I got to that, I went out back and picked up branches downed from last night's storm.
So, I started cleaning the house. By 8:00 PM, I was ready to wash the kitchen and the downstairs floors. But, I got a phone call and talked for a while. By the time I was done, I was not inspired to continue. Nor was I inspired to make my dinner. So, I grabbed the last of a bag of chips and the little bit of chip dip left and made that my supper.
I will try and get the canoe down tomorrow morning (along with cutting the lawn). I watched TV until I fell asleep.
Say hello to Karras for me. We people who cannot keep our names straight need to stick together. And we had a great conversation on Waconda’s porch maybe three or four years ago. Assuming she remembers who I am, of course. :)
ReplyDelete1.) Why don't you ask Jake to help you get it down?
ReplyDelete2.) Tell Karras if wwe find the back rests I will email here
3.) No real paddles, sorry
I didn't remember that Grandma loved summer squash fried in butter with salt ME TOO I planted a summer squash plant so that I could enjoy that now I find I am taking the extra's to Curves because it would be a sin to throw them out!!!! Can't wait to see you you will not believe how big little Carl is 5'11. Hope all is well. Not looking forward to the 14-15 hour car ride.
ReplyDelete@ jwg: did it.
ReplyDelete@Amer: Jake is now a husband and a homeowner and has enough of his own shit to do. I have no doubt if I asked him, he would do it, so I am very careful about what I ask.
@ Amy: He's probably taller than me (I keep shrinking) I really think its time to start calling him "young" Carl rather than "little" Carl.
I couldn't do a 14-15 hour drive anymore.
