It was hot as hell on Thursday. But, they are calling for occasional thunderstorms all day, so I left the car buttoned up when I got to work.
I regretted that when I left for lunch. No rain, but still stifling heat and humidity. I stopped at Meijer's and got $43.01 US worth of the next two week's groceries. I put them away after treating the cats and ate the rest of that cauliflower quiche for lunch.
Back at work, it got even hotter. I was called into the Director's office at 4:55 PM and we discussed my future (in short, I'm fncked - don't ask, I can't tell).
I got home about 5:15 PM (depressed), treated the cats and changed clothes. I swept out the main bathroom and then prepared a bucket of soapy water. I washed down the sink and toilet, the outside of the tub and the window sill and then decided to call my friend, B___. BTW, it was still hot and sunny here.
He said there were severe thunderstorm warnings everywhere. I said I only have one thing to do outside and I was cleaning the house tonight. He suggested I hang up, do what ever I had to do and call him back later. I looked outside and it was getting darker, so I agreed.
I took the rest of the evergreen stakes outside and pounded them in strategically around the arbor vitiae surrounding the St. Francis garden. "Live long and prosper!"
Back inside, it was still just overcast. I pooh-poohed the idea of severe weather and washed the main bathroom floor. Then I started a medium load with the main bath and my bath shower mats, the hand towels and some kitchen towels.
I was watching the Nightly News when the storm hit (say 6:35 PM). I heard the thunder, went out to the kitchen and looked out the window. Between the wind and the heavy rain, I couldn't see anything! The power went out several times, but came back up immediately.
The wash machine buzzer went off, so I threw the rugs and stuff into the drier. It was still lightening and thundering at 7:15 PM. BTW, my second ex-wife used to unplug everything at the mere mention of a storm. Maybe I'm stupid, but I figure the power strip will save me (although I've burned up a power unit, once), so I don't.
The heavy rain stopped about 7:15 PM, although the thunder kept grumbling. So, I went on to clean the living room. I finished that up, but since I still have not heard from my cousin (about picking up the canoe this weekend), I decided to give this effort up.
I was too beat to make a real dinner, so I ate the rest of the cut-up watermelon (I have one-half of it left) watching TV. Then I went to bed early.
Note: I checked the rain gauge Friday morning and yesterday's storm brought me just under 3/4 inches of rain.
