Weird Dream

I woke up at 3:30 AM after having a very vivid dream. It was back in the day when I was like, 14 or 15 and worked on a truck farm down the road. Somehow, I had made friends with a little older Mexican field hand and he offer to teach me how to knife-fight.

I’ll spare you the details (and keep most of the secrets to myself, in case I ever need them again) but one of the “teachings” was that you cocked your left arm at a 45 degree angle, fist clenched, and held it perpendicular to your body with the knife in your right hand, underneath and the blade up.

Why? Because that was your blocker. Any thrust or slash was taken on your arm. Trust me when I tell you, a stab was nothing (I think the shock didn’t register) but a slash gave you a jolt you wouldn’t believe.

The theory was that a blade struck at your arm would only hit skin and glance off bone; the major muscles, arteries and tendons were on the side facing inwards, protected from attack.

It p*sses me off that I can no longer remember his name, but I heard later that he was convicted of murder for man who either disrespected his girlfriend or slept with her. He’s probably still in prison or dead. But, I owe him one...

  2. Both Joe and I (he got me the job) worked for a season at (and I know I'm gonna butcher the spelling) Eddie Riechenbach's truck farm, about a half mile west of North Avenue on 24 Mile Road.

You were probably too busy being a stud, making pizzas and having fun at the time...
