Getting it Right!

It was sunny and warm (well, 61 degrees F. for the high) again on Thursday.

After work, I went and bought some gas for the mower. Back home, I filled the tank and then checked the oil (dirty, but full – I should have changed the oil in both mowers last Fall, but didn’t). I need to cut the back lawn NOW as rain will resume late tonight.

But, here’s where I screwed up. I had left the trickle charger on the motorcycle over the winter, ignoring the lawn tractor. So, when I went to start it, it didn’t turn over!

So, I put the charger on the lawn mower battery and went back inside to work on the garbage disposal.

I had read the comment from Rick and have actually used his broomstick theory. But, always when that had locked up before, the unit gave a loud hum. This was dead silence. And I didn’t know there was an allen wrench slot in the bottom of the garbage disposal.

You see, when I first started renting, my landlady bought a new fridge, washer and drier and gave me the owner’s manuals. But the furnace, A/C unit, hot water heater, dishwasher and the garbage disposal were already here, so I got nothing.

So, I dug out my old allen wrenches from my fifteen years working in the factory, found one that fit and gave it a quarter turn. I hit the switch and the damn thing started working! Thanks, man! You saved me a hundred bucks!

Then I went outside and walked the back yard, picking up last winter’s fallen branches. Back inside, it was almost 7:00 PM, so I tried the mower again. Still dead (hey, yahoo! It’s a TRICKLE charger).

So, I jumped it with my car battery. I cut the back lawn (badly) at the highest deck setting. There was no standing water, although the tires still got wet in places. But, I got it done and the house all buttoned back up by 8:30 PM.

I was gonna try the Thai soup my friend Michelle at work had brought me, but decided it was more important to eat those Texas Bean Casserole leftovers. So, I added in the barbeque sauce and warmed it up. Much better!

I watched TV until about 10:00 PM and then drifted off to sleep. Later, I turned off the TV and lights and went to bed for real.
