Since we never got any real rain to speak of, I spent Tuesday night hand-watering the front container gardens while the square head sprinkler was watering the raised bed vegetable garden. Before I started watering the vegetable garden though, I weeded it and noticed only a few green beans in just one of the three rows were up and growing. I’m not sure, but I think the squirrels may have eaten the rest of the seeds. So, I replanted those two empty rows. Then I turned on the sprinkler. The wind was blowing so hard, I set it on the west side, rather than in the middle like I usually do.
When I finished watering the front, I read up on the manual for the band saw (after I dug it out of my file box) and reinstalled the blade I’d popped off making the truck. Now I can get back to the tile job (when I get the time).
Speaking of the truck, Vicky said her Mom was so grateful she was in tears about it. Then she told Vicky (in Spanish, of course) that I forgot the most important part! I said, “Oh yeah! The bumpers, right?” She laughed and said, “No, she wished you had carved your name and the date in the bottom.”
I apologized (I never even thought of that) but told her to write it on with a black magic marker for me.
Anyway, I filled up the reservoir of the self-watering window planter by hand just about the time that an hour was up (which is how long I run the sprinkler on the veggie garden). So, I shut off the water, disconnected the sprinkler head and filled my 2-gallon bucket up. I made two trips back to water the peonies. I also watered the three rose bushes, although only one is blooming. They are slowly being strangled by the honeysuckle vines. Finally, I carried a bucket of water to the day lily I moved back there this spring.
Speaking of day lilies, for the first time since I’ve lived here, only one is blooming (and just two flowers!) They’re usually blooming everywhere. They all seem to be alive, just no blooms. It must have been the weird spring or lack of water or something.
Anyway, then I used my hand wand and watered the back gardens. Finally, I took off the wand and stuck the hose end into the reflecting pool, both to clean it out and to water the Japanese maple. I turned the hose on 1/4 turn and set the timer for 30 minutes. I refilled the bird feeder with the last of the seed I had, but left the bag out in the can. The wind is blowing a ton of trash over the wall and I’ll need the bag to pick up the trash some other, calmer day.
I went inside and had a cup of coffee while I processed a few pictures I took in my journeys. When the timer went off, I went back outside and wound up the hose. I locked everything up and checked the time. It was 8:35 PM.
I threw a chicken pot pie in the microwave for my dinner. I ate that watching TV, but went to bed by 10:30 PM.
