Thursday

I didn’t want to get up on Thursday morning and go to work, but I did. It was supposed to hit triple digits again, but with the threat of rain all day long, so I couldn’t leave the car windows cracked or the sunroof opened when I parked the car.

The first thing that happened at work was when I got out of the car and the basket fell off the walker (not that unusual as you have to sorta manhandle it in and out of the back seat). But, when I went to put it back on, I saw that one of the hooks that hang it on had snapped off! Damn!

But, you know me, I know guys. I know LOTS of guys. So, I called a maintenance guy I know and explained I had a thin hook that “looked” like it had been tack-welded to an even thinner wire basket in three places that had snapped off and asked if he thought something could be done to fix it. Before I could walk out to the car and get it, another guy (one I didn’t know) showed up and then he checked it out. He said, “Yeah, I think I can do something with that” and he took it and walked away.

I still hadn’t heard anything by lunchtime, so I left without it and went to Home Depot for some silicone caulk (there’s that word again) for the shower door. Since I was there anyway, I also went into Meijer’s for more hoagie buns (for the bratwurst) and, as an impulse buy, a tub of deli redskin potato salad.

I went home and had a warmed up brat and some potato salad for lunch. By the time I left to go back to work, it was pouring out (no thunder or lightening, just heavy rain!) But, when I passed Farmington Road on the expressway, (about four miles away from the house), the sun was out and the pavement was bone dry! Weird!

About 3:00 PM, I called the first guy and said, “I’m guessing since I don’t have the basket, you couldn’t fix it, right?” He said, “No, we were just waiting for the second coat of paint to dry.” So, he brought it over a while later. Not only was it perfect, they had put three black wire-ties (cut close) on each side where the welds are, just to strengthen it. Its nice to know guys…

It did finally start raining at work and rained for about two hours. It had stopped by the time I left for home at 5:00 PM, but I still had to use the wipers on the road because of the spray.

The first thing I did was to check the rain gauge and I picked up another 1/2 of rain today!

I got a cup of coffee and lay on the bed to watch the news. I had been yawning all afternoon and I was sure it was from staying up late listening to karaoke and fireworks.

The next thing I knew, I woke up and it was 8:00 PM! Worse yet, Scruffy was sleeping next to me, on top of the phone, which had turned the phone on and so I missed a call from Melissa (which would have woken me up). I also missed a text from Jake, because I never turned the cell phone back on to tone from vibrate, after work!

I was hungry, but before I ate, I hard-boiled six eggs. They will be too hot to use them tonight, but one of the things I don’t like about deli potato salad is that there never seems to be any eggs in it. So, I’ll add my own.

I warmed up two more chicken breasts and ate them on buns with mayo again with a little egg-less potato salad on the side.

I wasn’t tired, but I made myself shut off the lights and try to sleep at 11:00 PM.
