Tuesday's Tale

I tried a different way to get to work and it worked! Until other people figure this out, I should be okay.

I volunteered to run out to Best Buy and get a 500 GB hard drive for one of the computers used in Building 73 (Manufacturing). After I bought it, I drove it up there. It was nice to see all the old familiar faces again (I was up in Building 73 for a couple of years).

I went home at lunch and made a sandwich. I talked with my neighbor for a little while about my maple tree out in front. For the last few years, its been slowly dying and there are about three or four dead limbs on it right now. Since it was very healthy for the first six or seven years I lived here, I am at a loss for what the problem might be (none of the other maples have been affected).

My neighbor believes that every time I have the roots cut out of the sewer pipe, I am cutting the roots of that tree (it is next to where the drainage pipe runs out to the sewer) and therefore slowly killing it. Hmmm... I guess its possible.

But, whatever it is, I don't want to take the chance that, if it is a disease, it affects my other trees. So, I asked him to ask his guy (you remember, the one I almost shot) to give me a price on cutting it down and grinding up the stump.

Once I was home for the evening, I returned a voice mail from Lu. She said the parts had come in and her vehicle was fixed. She would like to see her mother on Wednesday and then come here after I get home from work, so I said it was okay.

I watered the front container gardens (we did have a slight shower earlier, but nothing much showed in the rain gauge). Then I cleaned the cat hair off the living room furniture, instead of getting back to digging out the old bush’s roots. I watered the replacement arbor vitiae so it stays healthy until I can plant it which, with a visitor coming tomorrow, won’t be at least until Thursday.

I got an email from Schoolcraft college (where I took that PMP class) that said: “Lane closures and delays can be expected from August 13 through October while Haggerty Road between Six and Seven Mile is resurfaced. Students, employees and visitors are encouraged to allow extra time when driving to campus. Haggerty Road will remain open throughout the project. There are five Schoolcraft entrances off of Haggerty; drivers can proceed to another entrance if they find that one is blocked.”

You have no idea just how bad Haggerty Road was (well, Jake and Carla would) but that’s the first construction project this year that made sense to me! I may take a Winter or Spring course, just so I can drive down a smooth road to college!

I warmed up the last of that leftover meatballs and pasta dish for my dinner. I left the Tupperware dish to soak in hot soapy water and went to watch TV until bedtime.

  1. Just trim the maple nicely and see what happens....where would you be if they chopped you down when you hurt your knee?
    just saying.......

  2. The trouble is I have been trimming it "nicely." It was about twice as full as it is now when I moved in.

  4. @ Amy: That would be a question for the Webmaster! I still have no idea how any of this works :(

  5. After the reins were handed to Google, I'm really more sherpa than webmaster these days. What happens when it doesn't work? Any errors? Recaptcha has gotten more painful recently...

  6. @ Sherpa: You went from "Webmaster" to "Sherpa"? Bummer, dude!

  7. Not really. I mean, I'd saved enough money from my Webmastering days that I'm comfortable and the experience has really helped my writing. I'm also working on a new domain-specific language called Hilly Terrain and Mountain Language. Unfortunately, some Limey is claiming the acronym, so there's this on-going legal thing but...
