Late night memory…

(or is it “late night”? I took a long, much needed nap today and with the time change, I’m a little confused...)

Anyway, I am rereading a book that is partially set in the 1950’s and they mentioned a song (Rock Around the Clock) being played on a transistor radio.

Now, most of you wouldn’t remember what those were, but I do. We had one when Fran, Amy and I lived in a small rented piece-of-shit house that Fran did her best to make a home in downtown New Haven.

As I recall (and my recollection is admittedly sketchy), it was about one inch thick, four inches high and maybe six inches wide. It had a light tan leather cover and would pick up the AM stations that were broadcasting (CKLW?). I don’t think there were FM stations at that time or maybe there were and I just didn’t have the money to buy a receiver for them. But, it doesn’t matter.

We would take it with us late at night when we went to the laundromat to wash our clothes. We went there late at night so there were less people using machines as we could get in and out quicker. And, we would listen to the latest music as the clothes washed and dried...

Good times, man, good times...
