Road Trip

I woke up to an alarm on Saturday (heresy!) because I had a 10:00 AM doctor’s appointment in Richmond on Saturday. I did the usual and hit the road, heading down I-96 towards the D.

Sidebar: Don’t worry about me and I-96 sniper you may have heard about in the news. He’s operating west of here and he hasn’t shot at any Volvo’s yet. Besides, I think he’s a pussy. He’s only shooting at car’s, not people. And the one guy who did get wounded was only hit because the round went through the door. Get real, dude: if you’re trying to be famous for shooting people: shoot PEOPLE!

Anyway, the air was cold (32 degrees F.) but the sun was out (blinding me as I headed east). I got to Richmond early (lead foot, I guess) and stopped at McDonald’s to relieve myself (it’s a long trip after a morning coffee and McDonald’s is the official old people rest stop – oh, laugh if you want; you can check with AARP if you don’t believe me!)

I breezed through the doctor’s visit (I knew I would) They even took an EKG and couldn’t find anything wrong! For example, my cholesterol was 124!

So, I don’t have to go back for six months! Clean living does have it’s perks!

So, I headed back to Redford. I stopped briefly at B___’s. He and his wife were busy getting their motor home cleaned and prepped for winter, so I didn’t stay long. I wasn’t being polite, I just didn’t want to have to help!

Heading back out. I ran into a HUGE traffic problem going my usual way to Groesbeck. Utica Road (which is always congested) was down to one lane because they are resurfacing it. So, it took some time, but I finally got on my way back home.

I normally take Groesbeck to 8-Mile and then 8-Mile across to Inkster, But, I didn’t feel like screwing around with traffic lights, so I got onto I-696, took that to Southfield road and drove the two or three mile on it to the Southfield freeway. That took me back to I-96 and home.

I got there about 1:30 PM. I treated the cats and changed my clothes. Then I got to work, myself!

I stacked all the patio furniture in its winter storage spot. I moved the fire pit over there as well.

I normally drain both hoses and store them out there, too. But, now that I have the hose reel box, I didn’t feel like disconnecting them. So. I loaded the box and the assorted sprinklers in the wagon and took it to the garage apron. I put the sprinklers on the shelf and turned the air compressor on. When it was ready, I blew the water (or at least most of it) out of the hoses. Then I found a winter spot for it inside the garage (where it rarely freezes, anyway).

All that’s left is to drain and cover the reflecting pool and put the tarp on the stored furniture, fire pit and wheel barrow. So, I decided to finish that tomorrow and went inside for a cup of coffee and to warm up.

When I was on my hunt for “quick-cooking barley” I picked up a bag of dried beans called 15 bean soup. So, I put the dried beans in my pasta pot, rinsed them a couple of times and then covered them with a lot of water for Sunday soup. I thought about watching TV, but decided to take a nap instead. So, I did!

When I woke up, I went around and changed all the clocks (I didn’t feel like waking up at 2:00 AM to do it). Then I spent some time trying to figure out a way to replace the main bath vanity (there’s a floor heating duct that’s a problem with the one I would like to put in there). I didn’t find the answer, but I will!

I made yet another Reuben sandwich for dinner. This time I did try using the little George Foreman grill. It worked, but was as messy or maybe even more messy than using the skillet. And now, I have that to clean up!

I watched a movie and then the last of Saturday Night Live before I felt sleepy enough to go to bed.
