It was just a little warmer on Thursday, with lots of sun
that made my morning walk much more bearable.
I stopped at Home Depot and bought the last item (I hope)
that I need for the weekend projects. It’s supposed to rain “sometime” on
Saturday and maybe Sunday, so I am not sure how much outside work I will be
able to get done.
For lunch, I warmed up Vicky’s rice and beans. Here I
must make a correction. I’ve been calling it “rice and beans” as you know, but
while I was eating it I noticed they didn’t look like any “beans” I know. So,
when I got back to work I asked her what kind of beans they were. She said they
weren’t beans at all, but what they call “pigeon peas” in Puerto
Rico.
I never heard of that, so I looked it up in Wikipedia. It seems they are
cultivated throughout the Middle East and Africa. Since it was first encountered by Europeans in Africa, it obtained the name Congo
Pea. By means of the slave trade it came to the American continent, probably in
the 17th century. Today, pigeon peas are widely cultivated in all tropical and
semitropical regions of both the Old and the New Worlds. So, I have been
enjoying rice and pigeon peas.
Back home after work, I emptied the dishwasher (I had run
all the small stuff I used in making my mac & cheese through it the other
night) and then folded the rest of the laundry (I just hung up the stuff that
needed it last night).
I noticed I had a voicemail. It was from my Brother Carl,
who had called last night when I was talking with Melissa. So, I called him
back and we chatted for a while.
After the NBC Nightly News, I made a "leftovers" supper. I heated up
three slices of that leftover beef roast and some of the leftover mac & cheese. I
ate the roast beef with some horseradish on the side and it was excellent!
I watched a little TV, but went to sleep by 10:00 PM.
