Sunday, warming up...

I woke up way too early on Sunday so I stayed in bed, reading, until the 6:00 AM news came on. I ate the last two pieces of Vicky’s Mom’s cake for breakfast. I was just lazing around until I finally filled my pillbox, wound the mantle clock, shaved and showered. I had to go to Costco and wanted to be there when it opened at 10:00 AM.

Since the cats were occupied elsewhere, I took the opportunity to strip the bed and put the bedding into the washer. Then I left.

I got there five minutes early, so I was basically in and out. I did find a new cordless sweeper (the last one I bought from Lowe’s crapped out on me a month or so ago). But, I could not find any dress gloves, brand-name V-neck t-shirts or Ivory bar soap (all of which were also on my list).

So, I went over to Meijer’s and found the last pair of black leather gloves and some Hanes V-neck t-shirts. But, they didn’t have the big packs of Ivory soap I usually buy, just little 3-packs of smaller bars. It ticked me off, but I bought three of them anyway.

I stopped at CVS to pick up a prescription. Then I went to the quarter car wash (its finally above freezing here) and hosed off all the salt and crap on the car (it looked bad!)

Back home, I treated the cats and then put the bedding in the dryer. Then I put the new sweeper together and set it on the charger (it has to charge at least 24 hours before you can use it the first time).

I went out and refilled the suet cage and topped off the squirrel feeder. It was snowing a little; tiny, wet flakes.  I came back in and put all the apothecary bottles Kathy gave me that didn’t have labels into the dishwasher, making sure that I turned it to air-dry. B___ had suggested that, thinking the heat in the normal drying cycle might break the old glass. That gave me more or less a full load, so I fired it up.

I will have to carefully hand-wash the other bottles, so I don’t destroy the labels.

Then I went out in the garage and attempted to adjust my headlights (left side is now too high and right side is too low since I replaced the burnt-out low beam bulbs). I researched it on line and tried to follow the directions. Putting the masking tape on my garage wall at the right height was easy, but I could NOT find the stupid adjustment screws that they all talked about (of course, no pictures, thank you very much...) Very frustrating!!! I came back in and double-checked all the links I could find. Nothing that I understood! Grrr…

To relax, I checked out the real estate listing for old homes in Charleston, SC, for an hour or so. Most were way too high (like the tour guide mentioned) but I did find some old cheaper ones in the areas we toured. Of course, most said, “Needs some work, but a sound building.” But, with 10-foot ceilings and all hardwood floors, they still looked beautiful. And, think of all the projects I could have!!!

Then I warmed up that pumpkin soup Michelle at work gave me and ate it for lunch. I couldn’t make up my mind whether or not I liked it. It wasn’t bad, but it has the same spices as a pumpkin pie, so it was kinda weird to eat a soup that tasted like a pie!

I finally remade the bed and then got started on cleaning out the little closet. I covered the kitchen table with a blanket (I always do that so the table doesn’t get scratched) and emptied everything out.

Then I tried to sort the stuff into logical groupings and used my new trays. I filled a paper bag with trash and took some stuff out to the garage where it belongs. It was more of a pain than hard work, but you can check out the photos to see the results.

I took out the apothecary bottles from the dishwasher and arranged them on the shelf. I took a picture for you. But, you really can’t tell that the clear one on the far right is triangular shaped and really cool. Thanks again, Kathy!

I unloaded the rest of the dishwasher and then I washed the kitchen floor. I took a break and watched TV while it dried. I also took a pain pill because, for some reason, my back was really hurting.

When the kitchen floor was dried, I washed the main bathroom floor. I decided that was the extent of floor washing for today.

For dinner I heated up a big bowl of beef stew and a dumpling. I emptied the remaining stew and dumplings into three 4-cup containers, marked them and put them in the freezer. I put some baking soda and hot water in the Dutch oven and left it to soak overnight.

I watched the movie “Shooter” with Mark Walberg and found it was loosely based on a book I had read and one of my favorite fictional characters, Bob Lee Swagger. It ended at 10:30 PM, so I shut off the TV and the light and went to bed.
