Friday Follies

I woke up Friday morning and checked the snow depth. I was hearing 1-3 inches in my area on the news, but I doubt if there was more than a couple of inches.

I left a little early because I already knew (from experience) the Road Commission’s efforts are spent on the expressways first and it was still snowing. Sure enough, Plymouth Road hadn’t been touched. But, I drove slow and didn’t change lanes or slam on the brakes. Hey, I’ve been driving in Michigan winters for 48 years, so this ain’t my first rodeo.

The only time I slid was when I turned onto Market Street.

Once they arrived, Michelle and Vicky were talking about being hungry and wanting to go to breakfast. That sounded awfully good to me! So, I hitched a ride with them at lunch. We went back to the Newburgh Grill. They both ordered the Western Skillet, while I went with a more traditional breakfast special: eggs over easy, hash browns and bacon, ham and sausages with rye toast. It was way too much food and nobody finished.

It was still snowing and the wind had picked it. It was miserable, but we were in Michelle’s 4-wheel drive pickup truck, so I wasn’t worried. Getting in and out of that beast was a bit tricky as she hasn’t got running boards yet.

Unfortunately, I had a “food coma” and spent most of the afternoon wishing I could take a nap!

Obviously, both my morning and afternoon walks were taken indoors.

But, finally it was 5:00 PM and I headed home. I’m not sure what happened (I hate gawkers and don’t want to be one) But the westbound side of I-96 was completely shut down, just east of Levan, with police, fire trucks and EMS units everywhere! I was glad I was eastbound!

I got home, treated the cats and filled up the remaining dishes in the dishwasher to make a full load. I figured I’d make something in the microwave (still trying to clean out that chest freezer so I can defrost it) so I put in the stove grates and drips pans as well. Then, I turned it on.

I made a Marie Callender’s Fettuccini with Chicken and Broccoli (500 calories, Carl) and a side salad. Both were good.

My friend B___ called and we talked for a while, mostly about income taxes (it is that time again).

I watched the Friday Night Fights for a change, but fell asleep before they ended.
