The
snow over night finally stuck and stayed on the ground by Wednesday morning.
There was about a half inch here. You wouldn’t think that would cause much
trouble but the morning traffic reports were filled with accidents all over the
place.
It
wasn’t until I left for work that I understood. The weight of the cars turned
the minimal snow into ice. I slid when I turned onto Plymouth Road and then gingerly proceeded
to the traffic light on Inkster. But. I lucked out! Livonia (which starts at Plymouth and Inkster) had salted Plymouth Road! So, it was just wet from
then on.
That
is, until I got to Market Street, where I slid again…
I
was the first at work at 7:50 AM. So, I unlocked the door,
made a pot of coffee and waited for more people to show up.
My
boss arrived next She said the expressways were fine but when she traveled the
last half mile on surface streets, there were four accidents. Levan was a sheet
of ice. Both Michelle and Vicky agreed to that when they showed up as both of them had slid past
the side street where they should have turned!
I
determined the salt on the parking lot would allow safe walking at 10:00
AM,
but I had to cut the walk short due to wind. I didn’t wear my hat, gloves or scarf
today.
I
went to Westborn to get the rest of the
stuff I need for St. Patrick’s Day. Since I have my usual staples and bought my
corned beef brisket last Saturday, all I needed was a head of cabbage, a
rutabagas and a bottle of Guinness Stout. I also picked up some more apples for
work snack.
I
took my stuff to the checkout and ended up right behind our Director of IT! She
looked at what I was carrying and made a joke about me drinking on the job.
Then she added, “Not that they don’t drive you to it!” I said I agreed, but
this was for St Paddy’s Day dinner. We made small talk until she checked out
(she had visited their soup and salad bar for her lunch) but I had the feeling it was as
awkward for her as it was for me.
I
walked inside in the afternoon. It still was snowing off and on. In fact, I
drove home in the sunshine with snow still falling! The apparent inconsistency perfectly
describes March in Michigan.
I
had a little box from South Carolina in my mailbox. There was a
small book called Humor for Boomers and a dish towel inside. Thanks, Jake and
Carla! I loved them both!!
I
did the Wednesday night wash thing. I was tired of steak for dinner, so I
cooked some Buitoni Wild Mushroom Agnolotti pasta and topped it with a warmed
up jar of Bertolli Alfredo Sauce.
I added some fresh chopped flat leaf parsley to brighten it up and topped it with grated Parmesan cheese. Delicious!
I
watched some TV, but switched to reading. I read until bedtime at 11:30
PM
