It was still trying to get warm on Wednesday.
I didn’t feel like driving home just to eat leftovers
for lunch, so I went to the Time Out again. Since Lent has passed, I had a
cheeseburger and fries, with a cup of beef barley soup with mushrooms. My mushroom
and barley soup is better, BTW.
I still had about 25 minutes before I was due back at
work, so I drove 10 minutes one way and then 10 minutes back on Hines Drive,
looking for signs of Spring in the park. No green was showing yet, but the walkers, joggers and ducks were out.
Back home after work, I refilled the squirrel feeder
and then got to work on the clock. I drilled out the 5/16-inch hole for the
clockworks and then clamped on the router jog. I did a test hole in the plywood
first, then another test hole in some scrap 1 x 6 wood to check for the correct
depth. Then I held my breath and routed out the back of the clock (if I screwed
it up, two months of work were down the drain).
It was okay! The clock mechanism is a little
off-center in the routed hole, but who cares? It’s the back of the clock.
Then I glued and clamped on all the hour indicators. I
set the clock on a 2 x 6 chunk of wood so the clamps wouldn’t hit the kitchen
table and let it sit for the night.
I warmed up another lamb chop, the roasted potatoes
and some more of the mushrooms for dinner. I ate the last four stale Peeps for
dessert.
It was getting late by then. I could have watched TV,
but I realized I only had about 50 pages left to the end of my book, so I read
instead. Then I went to bed.
