Rainy Days and Wednesday…

Before I left for work on Wednesday, I went out back and dumped the rain gauge. There was just over 1/2-inch of rain in it, the sum total of Tuesday’s rain.

Unlike Monday and Tuesday’s rain, today’s was a slower, steadier rain… There were breaks in it like the other days, but none of the violent storms of the past two days.

Background: Over the weekend, I noticed just how much my dogwood has grown to one side. Hmmm… So, on Sunday, I went in the garage to get the lopping shears. A quick check didn’t reveal them, so I instigated a thorough search. Nothing! Then it dawned on me: I probably hung them in the shed... Of course!

But, another thorough check didn’t come up with them. WTF did I do with my lopping shears? I dunno…

So, after a fantastic bowl of beef vegetable soup and a chicken club sandwich at Time Out, I went to Lowe’s. I picked up a mid-priced pair of lopping shears.

When I got back to work, Vicky told me she had brought me in a sample of a Puerto Rican dish her Mother had made: Pastels del pesca con coco (hope I spelled that right). I gave up long ago trying to get recipes from Evy, but it’s basically salt cod that been rinsed and flaked, mixed with fresh shredded coconut and formed into patties. It’s then lightly coated with flour and cornstarch and baked. I’ve had it before and it’s a delicious combination of salty and sweet.

I planned on having it for dinner, but I forgot it in the little fridge!

When I arrived home after work, I found my order in the doorway from nfieldgear.com: a headlight shield and a front license plate. Unfortunately, neither came with installation instructions!

I noticed a big blue jay eating under the bird feeder, so I took his picture through the window.

I treated Caley and then changed clothes. It wasn’t raining at that particular point, so I went out back and tried to prune the dogwood to be more symmetrical.

On the way back inside, I was astounded at how the ferns and lilies of the valley had shot up in the wild garden.

I buttoned everything up for the night and then warmed up the last of the cheese tortellini for my supper.

I watched a couple of taped shows and then went to bed just after 10:00 p.m.
