Sidebar: There is nothing “Throwback” in this post. I try to
move forward and never look back!!! I just like the alliteration, lol!
I got up, it was cold, blah, blah, blah. Michigan.
I went to Time Out for lunch. I got a cup of chicken noodle
soup with potatoes. That sounded just weird enough to be interesting. Plus, the
waitress assured me it was fantastic! And, it was!!!
I also ordered a blackened chicken breast, wrapped with
bacon, sandwich. That did sound great but, in reality, not so much. It was dry
(a little mayo would have helped) and too heavily seasoned. I drank two glasses
of water trying to choke it down.
Sigh…
From there I went and got the truck filled up. $2.59 a
gallon? I love it!!!
Sidebar: This will not last long. The Michigan legislators
are currently passing a bill to add a HUGE gas tax to pay for road
improvements. Okay, I get that. We need that.
BUT…
I just heard that Michigan Democrats are trying to pass a
bill to lessen the weight limits on big trucks. Apparently, Michigan (and
Michigan alone) allows the heaviest big rigs on the road of all states. I didn’t
know THAT!
Republicans are fighting this, claiming it will hurt the “little”
small business guys. Um, I think some guy making print-screen tee-shirts in his
basement doesn’t need “protection.” It’s the big corporations who want to ship
tons of crap that are breaking our roads up.
Where is the petition I can sign???
During the afternoon, my attention wandered. I reviewed all
the cut pieces for the computer desk and realized I didn’t have the computer
tower shelf accounted for!
Sidebar: If this seems like a big deal, as opposed to the
clock in a wheel, the crib or a rocking horse, it is. This one is a bitch and I
blame my brother Carl for this!!!
I could use the biscuit cutter, scrap 1x4’s (I have a lot) and
make the 8+ inch shelf, but that would add two days to the assembly. And, I
want to have this delivered BEFORE Christmas. I don’t want Betsy to have people
over and showing off her new place with her computer sitting on a card table!
So, instead of going straight home, I stopped at Home Depot
and bought a four foot 1x10’ pine board.
I left the truck outside. I went in, treated Caley, changed
my clothes and then got to work. I cut the computer shelf out, then scribed the
curve on the corner and cut it out with the saber saw. I sanded the shelf to
make it smooth and ready for stain.
Then I cut out the six corner pieces that will secure the
top.
I finished up at 7:30 p.m., swept out the sawdust and pulled
the truck back in. I blew off my clothes and went back inside for the night.
I warmed up the kielbasa and sauerkraut and dished out a big
bowl of it. I packed the rest of it into containers to give back to Michelle.
I ate dinner, watching taped TV and then went to bed.
Throwback to lower gas prices? Looks like they haven't been this low since 2010.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the gas prices! But, sadly, Michigan is going to raise the gas tax (we already pay the highest gas tax in the US) to help pay to fix the roads. We can't catch a break here!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I just learned we also have the highest weight limits on big trucks (which is why the roads keep crumbling). Some want to lower the weight limit, but others argue it will hurt "small business!"
I think if they're small, they wouldn't be shipping that much crap. I think its big businesses (with their big campaign contributions) that are blocking this. Grrr...
