It rained off an on all day today, ending about 3:30 PM. When I got home, I checked voicemail (still waiting for the doctor and the results of my stress test) and email. Nothing...
Then I opened my mail (no big whoop there) and changed clothes. I put on my rubber boots and went outside.
I refilled the suet cage and the bird feeder. Then I filled up the squirrel feeder with my salted peanuts. I keep being tempted to snack on these (they smell sooo good!) but I still haven't (yet!)
Then I went out to my new raised bed garden (I'm not calling it the sandbox anymore) and planted pole beans in the same row as the sunflowers. Why? Oh, this is an old-time remedy, my friend! The theory is, rather than build a teepee, a fence, or an anything else for them to grow on, if you plant pole beans next to sunflowers (or corn, BTW, but I'm not planting any corn here this year), the pole beans climb onto the sunflowers, and you get the best of both worlds: Green beans at their peak of flavor and sunflowers (to either eat the seeds yourself or, in my case, to dry out and feed to the birds in the winter). Plus, I have always been fascinated by the sunflowers turning their blossoms with the sun's path everyday.
I checked and emptied the rain gauge (note to Jake: Big HINT here) on the way in. The off and on rain today gave me about 1/8 of an inch of rain. That's cool.
Once inside, I looked around for dinner ideas. Oh wait, here's one, I have an egg plant getting old on me! So, instead of reheating my rice mix, I will make fried eggplant, I guess.
I peeled the eggplant and cut it into 1/2 inch slices I dipped each slice into whisked eggs then flour and fried it in a skillet with canola oil until golden brown. I drained it on a rack over paper towels and salted it immediately.
I watched some taped shows, waiting for tonight's Top Chef episode. When that was over at 11:00 PM, I went to sleep.
