Sunday, still painting...

I got up at 7:30 AM on Sunday and made a fresh pot of coffee. Today is a big day as, barring some unforeseen problem; I should have my bedroom back together by tonight!

I take a cup of coffee out to the front porch. I am really starting to like this ritual. My friend B___ has always talked of how pleasant it is for him to have his morning coffee on his screened-in back patio, but it wasn't until now that I could appreciate what he meant. I came in and got a refill and went back out.

Okay, now back to work. This morning is all a bunch of little things: put back on the overhead light shade, replace the switch and plug plates with the ones I painted yesterday, put the smoke detector back up, tape off the floor on the last wall, etc. I have had one causality so far. Newt's filter pump refused to work after I unplugged it to replace that plug plate.

So, now its 10:00 AM, and I am putting the second coat on the three lighter walls. Of course, this one goes much faster and by 11:00 I am cleaning up. Next, I took everything out of the book case, dusted it and them applied furniture polish. I turned it upside down and installed nylon furniture glides to the four corners on the bottom (no more scratching the floor). I pushed it back in place in the bedroom, careful not to touch the wall. I'll put the books and knickknacks back later, because now its time to get ready to go to CVS for some prescriptions I ordered.

So, I shave and shower and then get dressed. I go to CVS and, as an afterthought, shoot up to Westborn to get this week's deal on fresh sweet corn. Lat time it was the end of the Florida sweet corn and 8 ears for $2.00. This time it's Georgia Peaches and Cream corn, five ears for $1.99. I want one great dinner for the Holiday weekend, so I thawed out a steak yesterday for tonight's dinner and this will put the whole thing over the top!

Back home, I put the bedding from the daybed (in the office, and where I have been sleeping this past week) into the washer. I am sleeping in my own damn bed, tonight!!! Then, I vacuum the entire house (it's been two weeks since I last gave it a good cleaning and the cat hair and "stuff" is getting gross. I empty an enormous amount of cat hair, dust and "stuff" into the trash and take the paper filter out to the garage. I turn on the air compressor, drag the hose out into the driveway and blow out the filter.

Since the compressor is on anyway, I pump up all the tires on the car to the recommended pressure. Now, I bet I know what you're thinking: why isn't the lazy bum painting the last wall? Well, I'll tell ya! I had a LOT of bad experiences when remodeling my kitchen taping something of one color, painting another color next to it, pulling the tape off and finding that the first color had stuck to the tape! So, I am waiting until 24 hours has passed before trying it, this time.

I make up my bed for the first time in a week! Sadly, I can see now the bedspread I dyed is not dark enough. I guess I'll get more "Navy Blue" dye next weekend and give it another shot. I immediately cover the bed up with a drop cloth. I got out the sweet corn from the fridge (its kept iced at Westborn and I put it in the fridge when I get home until about an hour or so before I plan on roasting it. I cut off the excess corn silk and the stalk and then put it in a stock pot, covered with cold water.

So, it's almost 4:00 PM, and I am ready to try and paint the last wall.
I put up the masking tape, (praying to the masking tape gods), get the brush and roller ready and stir the paint. And, off we go!

But, wait a minute... I notice I am hungry. Well, with no breakfast or lunch, this is kinda understandable. Since I don't have the time, I settle for two dill pickle spears (they wake up my mouth and let me think I'm full). I fill up the little paint tray and get going.

Dammit! I cut it in and rolled it. Number one: this is really a dark Navy Blue and, over the existing white, is going on mottled, at best. This will be easily a two or three coat paint job. Number two: immediately after cutting it in, I pulled off the blue masking tape. Two different, 3-inch strips of the lighter paint came off, showing the original white! I will have to fix that with the other, lighter paint and an artist's brush, later. I am so NOT happy!!! Once the wall has been completely painted for the first time, I cover everything up and take out the thawed steak.

I hit it with the house seasoning and let it get up to room temperature. Meanwhile, I go take the grille outside and light some charcoal. While the coals are heating up, I saut the rest of the chopped red onion and a tray of large white mushrooms I sliced thick, in butter and olive oil.

I roast the sweet corn, and then grille the steak. While it's resting, I also grille a package of those Dearborn Natural Casing hot dogs (for dinners this coming week). I luck out and the porterhouse steak is a perfect medium-rare. I top it with some of the mushroom and onion mix. Superb! The corn is small, but delicious. So, I have a most excellent Sunday dinner!

Now, it is almost 8:00 PM and I am full, happy, tired and a little sore. The bedroom smells strongly of paint, so I open one window. I decide enough is enough and I officially quit for the night.

I watch my Sunday night shows and go to bed (in my own bed, for a change) at 11:00 PM.
