Wet Wednesday

I ran errands at lunchtime on Wednesday. I went shopping at Chaps Feed Store (birdseed), GFS (lump charcoal) and Westborn (mozzarella, a watermelon, some sweet corn and some green grapes). It started sprinkling during my shopping trip.

Back home at 5:00 PM, I changed clothes and started the Wednesday night wash.

Then I used five of the remaining six tomatoes to make a salad (I'm saving the one for one more BLT, you see). I swear I saw this salad done somewhere, but can't find the recipe, so I made it up. I cut the top off of each tomato and cut it into eight wedges. Then I took eight or ten mozzarella balls (the size they call cherry, but they are a little bigger than that) and cut them in half. Those too went into the bowl. A quick trip to the patio and I had a handful of basil. I cut that chiffonade.

I stirred it altogether and covered it with balsamic vinaigrette for a marinade. I put that in the fridge to get happy.

I went out in the garage and finally (finally!) finished the mower by adjusting the front to back level. It took forever to break the two nuts free from each other (I ended up using a 2 x 2 to get enough torque!) I was back in the house just after 7:00 PM.

I strained a bowlful of the tomato salad to get rid of most of the marinade and then ate it! Hmmm... not bad, but I think it will improve overnight.

I went to bed at 10:00 PM again and, again, was awakened by thunder and lightning. The sound of the rain on the windows put me back to sleep, however. I should tape that sound for the nights when insomnia comes calling!
