This is the first one I ever owned. So, I don't know about re-blooming. I do know a lady who grows orchids (not sure if these are the same kind as hers) and they bloom, but not necessarily every year.
I guess I'll have to get back to you on that next year.
I've had mine for over 2 years and it's been in constant bloom! Even shot up a second flower spike. Here's what I do: east facing window, water weekly (let the water run through for about 30 sec), fertilize biweekly 20-20-20 (1/4 strength),loves humidity - mine sits on rocks in the pot with water in the bottom. When a flower spike dies, cut it off just above the first node from the bottom. Watch for a new leaf to start then the flower spike should follow shortly after. Don't repot! It loves crappy soil and the roots are on the top anyway. New roots should form with each new leaf. Hope this helps! JC - I sent a pic of mine to your email. Oh, and sing to it everyday, haha, kidding... :)
@ CC: Thanks! My instructions that came on the plant were to put three ice cubes in the pot once a week. Yours have a little more detail and make much more sense. I loved your picture! Thanks for the advice!
Oh, what kind of music does it like? Folk? Rock? God, I hope its not Rap! I am sooo bad at that!
@ GreatPapaFish: There you go! Expert testimony for ya!
@ GreatPapaFish: Well, the picture she sent me looks just like mine, so I don't think it only applies to "Canadian" orchids, lol!
Besides, they only have like a two-month growing season up there and she routinely puts my garden (and yours) to shame with hers, so I'm pretty sure she knows what she's talking about!
Love them...
ReplyDeletedid you ever get one to re-bloom? Just curious
